Add Unique Touches to a Funeral

My name is Evan, and I am a funeral director at a busy funeral home in the Midwestern United States. I have found that many loved ones want to personalize the funeral experience, but they simply don't know how. I am going to outline some ways that you can make a funeral unique to the person you are celebrating. From dramatic readings to favorite music to decorated caskets, the only limit is your imagination when it comes to planning the perfect funeral. I hope your mind will be open to the possibilities the next time you are in the unfortunate situation of having to plan a funeral.

What's In The Funeral Package? Boxed Questions For The Pre-Deceased

Christina Clarke

Now that funeral homes have started selling funeral packages, you might be wondering what that entails. What could you possibly package for a pre-deceased customer? Actually, there is a lot involved and a lot offered in these unusual packages. The following examples show some of the most basic bundles and the most elaborate packaged services available.

The Basic Funeral Package

The basic funeral package typically includes a viewing of the body service (i.e. "wake"), a eulogy service, and transportation to the cemetery or mausoleum to inter the body. It can also include a basic, no-frills box for ashes, or a basic coffin in which the body is placed for burial. It is the bare bones package; most people want a little more than this package offers.

The Intermediate Package

The intermediate package includes everything from the basic package plus a slightly fancier casket, services held on location at both the funeral home and the cemetery or mausoleum/crypt by the preacher or priest of your church, and a few extras, such as death and funeral announcements written by the funeral staff. The intermediate package may include a guest book for signing and the transport of flowers from the funeral home to either your home or the grave.

The Intermediate-Plus Package

At this level, you get all of the above, plus an upgraded casket that has more pillows and padding, as well as your choice of interior fabric. You can customize a few things like the casket's interior and exterior, and cremation in whatever casket or coffin you request is possible, too. Maybe you want people to sing at your wake, or you want people to entertain and regale others with stories and photos of your life. Very specific customization of various aspects of your funeral is allowed because more time is put into this package for such celebratory events. If you choose to be cremated (with or without a coffin or casket), then you can select a mid- to high-end decorative urn for your ashes as part of the deal.

The Deluxe Package

Often the deluxe package is exactly as it sounds; it provides for a lot of extras, such as grief counseling at your wake, tombstone selection and engraving, engraving on your urn or casket, above-ground burials and mausoleum interments, etc. It is the most expensive of all of the packages, but one which most people choose because you can pay it off over time prior to your passing, and you can ensure that every detail of the funeral is perfect.
