Add Unique Touches to a Funeral

My name is Evan, and I am a funeral director at a busy funeral home in the Midwestern United States. I have found that many loved ones want to personalize the funeral experience, but they simply don't know how. I am going to outline some ways that you can make a funeral unique to the person you are celebrating. From dramatic readings to favorite music to decorated caskets, the only limit is your imagination when it comes to planning the perfect funeral. I hope your mind will be open to the possibilities the next time you are in the unfortunate situation of having to plan a funeral.

Three Reasons To Opt For Cremation Over A Conventional Burial

Christina Clarke

When making plans for your final arrangements, it is important to know that you have options other than a traditional burial. One popular alternative to a standard burial is cremation. Check out just a few of the reasons a cremation might be a better option for your needs.

1. Cremation is Significantly Cheaper Than a Burial

One common reason that people opt for cremation over a burial is that cremation is a significantly cheaper alternative. On average, you can expect to pay around $11,000 for a funeral. In contrast, cremation with a memorial service runs about $3,650.

If you are concerned about covering your final expenses or just want to make sure that you leave your heirs a little something in your will, selecting cremation for your final arrangements is one way to keep your costs in line. You can even reduce your expenses even further by shopping around; it is fairly common for there to be a bit of price disparity between different cremation providers.

2. Choosing Cremation May Be Better for the Environment

For some individuals, the carbon footprint of their final arrangements influences their decisions. There is currently a debate as to whether burial or cremation is the best choice for the environment; some believe that a standard burial is more harmful to the environment than a standard cremation due to the chemicals used in the embalming process and the need for a gravesite. A graveyard requires the use of land, a limited resource.

To further minimize the effect of cremation on the environment, look for a provider who uses "green" cremation methods. "Green" cremation uses a different method for cremating the body that reduces the carbon output and the required amount of energy.

3. Your Family Won't Have to Worry About Tending to a Grave Site

After your death, you don't want to be a burden on your family. If your family does not live in close proximity to your potential grave site, you may worry that choosing burial creates a hardship for your family. Your family may have to make special trips to visit your gravestone and keep it outfitted with fresh flowers.

With cremation, you can have your ashes scattered in an appropriate locale, eliminating the need for a conventional grave site. Or, you can let your family choose what to do with your ashes. They can house them in an urn, or they can use them in the creation of some type of memorial piece, such as a garden statue or piece of jewelry.
