Add Unique Touches to a Funeral

My name is Evan, and I am a funeral director at a busy funeral home in the Midwestern United States. I have found that many loved ones want to personalize the funeral experience, but they simply don't know how. I am going to outline some ways that you can make a funeral unique to the person you are celebrating. From dramatic readings to favorite music to decorated caskets, the only limit is your imagination when it comes to planning the perfect funeral. I hope your mind will be open to the possibilities the next time you are in the unfortunate situation of having to plan a funeral.

Custom Funeral Arrangements: Four Touching Options

Christina Clarke

When choosing funeral arrangements for your loved one, you may want to consider more than just the traditional casket spray. If you are looking for some additional ways to pay tribute to your loved one, here are some options you can use to create a beautiful look around the casket:

Funeral Pillows

Funeral pillows can be placed in the casket, or they can be added to the casket spray. They are typically adorned with flowers, but you can also purchase simple satin designs with a few flowers and a ribbon. These types of arrangements are often used as a way for grandchildren to honor a grandparent, but they can also be gifts from cousins, nieces, nephews, or children. Look for a design that coordinates with the casket spray to create a cohesive look.

Funeral Blankets

Funeral blankets offer an alternative to traditional sprays. These arrangements are shaped like blankets, but they are covered in beautiful flowers. With this option, you can have your florist work in a custom design, such as your loved one's initials. For a closed-casket funeral, a blanket of flowers creates a special finishing touch.

Funeral Garland

Adorn the sides of the casket with garland for a simple yet classic look. The garland can be made out of your choice of flowers, and it can be used with or without a casket spray. You can remove the garland from the casket before the burial and place them on the headstone as a tribute to your loved one. Garland can also be used on pedestals holding an urn for memorial services, which provides a way to work a unique floral arrangement into the memorial even without a casket.

Funeral Sprays

While you may already be planning to purchase a casket spray, there are other types of sprays you can purchase for your loved one's funeral. Upright sprays offer an alternative to wreaths, and they can be created to mimic the look of the casket spray for a pulled-together look. These sprays sit on easels much like wreaths, and the can be placed on the ground in front of your loved one's headstone. Choose two matching sprays to flank the sides of the casket, and consider purchasing a third, larger design to sit behind the casket as a focal point.

Funeral homes can help you with additional ideas for floral arrangements. Once you have the types of arrangements you want in mind, you can then think about color schemes and types of flowers for the funeral.
