Add Unique Touches to a Funeral

My name is Evan, and I am a funeral director at a busy funeral home in the Midwestern United States. I have found that many loved ones want to personalize the funeral experience, but they simply don't know how. I am going to outline some ways that you can make a funeral unique to the person you are celebrating. From dramatic readings to favorite music to decorated caskets, the only limit is your imagination when it comes to planning the perfect funeral. I hope your mind will be open to the possibilities the next time you are in the unfortunate situation of having to plan a funeral.

Thoughtful Life Celebration Additions Every Cremation Customer Should Consider

Christina Clarke

When you make arrangements to have your loved one cremated after the have passed away, you will have the choice to have a traditional funeral or just hold a memorial or life celebration service at the funeral home or even at a private location if you choose. Life celebration and memorial services are a more modern approach and are commonly associated with cremation. If you are looking for ideas to ensure grieving guests are left with the best impressions of their lost loved one, there are a few thoughtful additions that you should consider making a part of the event.

Create a memory jar for guests to contribute to and enjoy.

A memory jar is an enjoyable and inexpensive way to keep guests occupied at a life celebration. Grab a large jar or container and affix a photo of the deceased loved one on the outside. Place a sign on or near the memory jar that instructs guests to jot down a favorite memory and drop it in the jar. Be sure you provide pens and paper or notebooks for the guests. These "memories" can be shared by guests at the service or sent home with the nearest living relative after the service is over.

Release floating memorial balloons in the room.

Floating memories are created with helium-filled balloons and are a lighthearted way to add a touch of personality to a memorial service. Attach a long string to each balloon along with a small clothespin or clip. These clips are available so that guests can bring along favorite photographs of the dearly departed and share them with the guests in attendance. Guests will enjoy sifting through the different photos and these photos are a nice gesture to give to the grieving spouse, child, or loved one after the service is over.

Create a show-and-tell collage.

Use an artist's easel to set up a large section of peg board in the room where the service is to be held and ask guests to bring along a small object that serves as a reminder of the person who has passed away. Provide a role of jute twine and small metal hooks for guests to display these items on the show-and-tell collage board at the service along with a simple note card to explain why the object is a reminder. This is a creative way to truly keep a loved one's memory alive in a tangible and physical way.
